In Europe actual average working week hours vary from 42.2 hours in Greece to 37.9 in Sweden. This contrasts with what European governments have actually agreed with trade unions for working hours. For example the average working week for full-time workers in France in theory should be 35 hours. In reality however, it's just under 40. Interestingly, although one of one of the reasons for the 35 hour week in France was to increase employment, this hasn't happened. Despite this, 39% of French companies told researchers that they expect to let their workers have a four-day week in the near future.
